Abstract :
The issue of concurrent fault-detection and correction in multimodule networks for high-speed numerical computations is addressed. A proposed method for concurrent fault detection and correction in online networks uses low-cost arithmetic error codes. An effective gracefully degradable organization is achieved, in that an uncorrected error at an intermediate step leads to restriction of precision in the remaining steps but not to a catastrophic termination of the computation. It is shown that, depending on the check modulus, a single error in each digit of the result can be detected and corrected
