Abstract
The technique of time reversal which results in some degree of focusing in space and time is one of the applications of the acoustic reciprocity, but a detailed theory of detection under the environment of ocean waveguide is lacking. For this purpose, the binary hypothesis testing of detecting object with additive white noise is studied by the time reversal method. Moreover in order to make the analysis of the performance, the conventional detection, where no time reversal occurs, also is studied. The essential receive operating characteristic (ROC) curves corresponding to both detection show that the time reversal detection provides significant gains over conventional detection.
