Abstract :
New measurement methods to characterize transformer core loss and copper loss in high frequency switching mode power supplies are proposed. Experimental results for a planar transformer used in a DC/DC converter are presented. A time-domain finite element analysis transient solver is adopted to verify the measurement results. In addition, a detailed error analysis on each of the error sources of the proposed measurement methods is provided.
