Abstract :
A continuous-time Markov chain model for an asynchronous communication spread-spectrum CDMA (code-division multiple-access) network is developed. The receiver-based code is considered; a station with a packet to send looks up the destination´s code and transmits on that code. The authors´ approach is based on a two-dimensional Markov chain model and allows them to study the effect of nonperfect (quasiorthogonal) codes on the performance of the spread-spectrum packet network. Steady-state results for throughput versus offered traffic and the delay versus throughput are obtained. The model is illustrated by examples, the stability of the network is discussed, and ALOHA and CDMA are compared
