Abstract :
Summary form only given. For the purpose of developing novel photo- and electro-active materials, we have been studying the syntheses and properties of eletrochernically doped polymers containing pendant /spl pi/-electron systems and a novel class of starburst molecules based on /spl pi/-electron systems. We have reported that 4,4´,4-tri(N-phenothiazinyl)triphenylamine (TPTTA) exhibits a room temperature conductivity of ca. 10/sup -5/ S cm/sup -1/ upon doping with iodine. We report here the preparation of electrochemically doped TPTTA by anodic oxidation in THF containing Bu/sub 4/NclO/sub 4/ as a supporting electrolyte, and its characterization and electrical properties. The electrochemically doped, red colored TPTTA was identified as a radical-cation salt with ClO/sub 4//sup -/ as a dopant, as evidenced from the electronic and infrared absorption spectra and elemental analysis. It exhibited a room-temperature conductivity of ca. 10/sup -7/ S cm/sup -1/.
