Abstract
This paper presents Gravitational Search Algorithm Optimization or GSA technique to solve short term hydrothermal scheduling problems, considering most of the practical operating constraints. The algorithm, which is inspired by Newton´s laws of gravity and mass interaction, the searcher agents are a collection of masses that interact with each other using laws of gravity and motion. The simulation results obtained by the proposed algorithm demonstrate that the new GSA algorithm outperforms the other techniques in terms of convergence speed and global search ability.
