Abstract
Summary form only given. The recent progress in trapping and cooling of atoms allowed us to prepare and to measure various nonclassical states of atomic motion. These methods make use of the laser-assisted vibronic interaction of the trapped atom. The interaction Hamiltonian for the laser being resonant to the kth vibrational sideband.
