Abstract :
In this paper, the design concept of reconfigurable architecture for video applications is introduced. By introducing well-designed reconfigurability into application specific circuits, an application specific design can provide not only good performance in terms of area, speed and power, but also flexibility for different modes, parameters, and algorithms. Power-aware concept can therefore also be realized based on the reconfigurable architecture. Several design cases are discussed: reconfigurable architecture for MPEG-4 and AVC/H.264, scalable architecture for JPEG 20000, and a video processing unit (VPU) with reconfigurable memory.
