  • Abstract
    Polarisation effects such as polarisation dependent loss (PDL), polarisation dependent gain (PDG) and polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) give rise to serious degradations on unoptimised long span optical transmission systems. The operation of TAT12 with an adequate margin was only possible after careful system design, minimising the degradations caused by these three polarisation effects.
