Abstract :
One of the best-innovated flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices is the static synchronous series compensator (SSSC). This device is effective to alter power system parameters in order to increase power transfer capability, stabilize system, help energy market resolve congestion-caused problems, and maximize economic value of transmission system. Therefore, the paper investigates modeling of SSSC and its impact on energy market dispatch outcomes, especially on resolving transmission congestion-related problems. The paper shows how SSSC may reduce generation costs associated with out-of-merit order and the impact of utilizing SSSC on regaining the uniformity of energy prices. The paper illustrates that removing differences in energy prices at different system locations reduces transmission congestion charges. The results of the test system presented in this paper will verify that using SSSC device offers a mechanism that may replace or help conventional transmission constraint mitigation methods.
