Abstract :
Emittance growth due to intra-beam scattering effects in charged particle beams is estimated using a second order moment description based on the Vlasov-Fokker-Planck equation. It is furthermore shown that the numerical emittance growth phenomena in computer simulations of particle beams can also be described by this approach
