Abstract :
Precision directivity in loudspeaker systems is a desired feature of many sound reinforcement applications. This feature is also desirable in antenna array but, in opposition to loudspeaker systems, a consolidated design theory has been widely considered over the past years. So, there are known methods to achieve specific directivity diagrams based on electromagnetic field interference. In this paper, synthesis of linear acoustical arrays of precise directional pattern is considered by using the standard antenna array theory. Starting by the sound pressure emitted by a single dynamic loudspeaker, an array factor is obtained. Then, a multiple driver array is constructed and measured to demonstrate the benefits in the control of directivity over a large bandwidth. Uniform and phased distributions are considered by adjusting the individual volume velocities of each loudspeaker.
