Abstract :
A load commutated inverter (LCI) drive was applied to an existing 8000 HP synchronous motor driving a centrifugal compressor at a gas processing plant. The purpose of this retrofit was to reduce the operating cost of the plant by variable speed operation of the compressor. The economic justification, application, installation considerations and results are described
