Abstract :
This paper presents the application of parallel and distributed programming methodologies for improving the performance of the weighted least square (WLS) state estimation (SE) algorithm in distribution power systems. For the monitoring of power systems it has been relevant the use of state estimation algorithms and one of the most used for this purpose is the WLS, but depending on the system complexity and size, the performance of this algorithm can be seriously affected in terms of computing time required, which is an important characteristic for Real Time (RT) monitoring applications. On the other hand, by taking advantage of the multicore capabilities of the current computer architectures and using parallel programming methodologies it is possible to improve the performance of the SE. The achieved results suggest that with these methodologies the SE becomes suitable for RT monitoring applications. All the developments where made using NI LabVIEW® and DSSim simulator.
