Abstract
This paper derives an electromagnetic transient mathematical model of the MMC based VSC-HVDC system. Based on the model, a coordinated control algorithm is presented for the MMC controllers design. A test system of the MMC VSC-HVDC is established in PSCAD/EMTDC to verify the correction of the algorithm. Simulation studies show the better dynamic responses of the MMC based VSC HVDC for the controllers with coordinated control algorithm than without.
