Abstract
This paper describes the design and implementation of the Static Var Compensator (SVC) Systems in the Tesla and Hamilton Road Substation, part of the Texas CREZ transmission system. The SVC systems were taken into operation by American Electric Power (AEP) in late August 2013. The paper describes some of the more important SVC design criteria such as filter design and performance, control and reliability. It also handles the generation and transmission system characteristics of the CREZ transmission system, providing the requirements for dynamic support. Also included are discussions on control verification and testing.
