Abstract :
Summary form only given. The relationship between the electrical conductivity and chemical structure is important for several reasons: on the one hand, it is interesting in connection with the mechanism of conduction and on the other hand the relationship may indicate possibilities for a synthesis of organic semiconductors for practical applications. Despite of the extensive experimental materials, the present knowledge of relationship between the electrical conductivity vis-a vis structure is still fragmentary. In this paper, the results of our experiments on the dark conduction behavior of three new merocyanine dyes (P-dimethylamino benzylidiene dyes derived from three different heterocyclic nuclei) are reported. The experimental details are reported -elsewhere /1/. The order of the magnitude of dark current was 10 -10- amp. The voltage and temperature dependence of dark current are studied and are discussed in the light of theories proposed earlier. The results are sought to rationalized in terms of the structure of the dyes with their electrical properties.
