Experimental study concerning the utilization of polymeric materials in distribution lines

This paper presents the results of a research project related to the utilization of compact distribution lines in places near the coast. An accelerated ageing test that would be able to reproduce the typical damage observed in polymeric material of distribution lines was developed. Different types of line spacers available in the Brazilian market were tested and the results of the investigation provided important information concerning the application of compact distribution lines in coastal areas. Tests were also performed in the laboratory with different configurations of polymeric materials used in distribution lines, considering line spacers, covered cable and ring ties.
