Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. We are developing a Marx switch which will have an extended lifetime. The switch uses graphite electrodes, and has two sites to prevent the graphite from spalling. To ensure that both sites carry current, the switch uses a mixture of 80% Ar and 20% SF/sub 6/, and is illuminated with UV. We are presently testing a prototype.
