Abstract :
An investigation is made into the effects of permittivity on the bandwidth and radiation patterns of a probe-fed cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (DRA). It is seen that a 50 Ω impedance match can be achieved until the relative permittivity of the material is dropped below about 5. The impedance bandwidth is maximized for a relative permittivity that is small but greater than unity. However, the radiation patterns are degraded as the permittivity decreases.
