Abstract
More than 550 noncentrosymmetric simple and binary oxides have been categorized by crystal symmetry class and symmetry-dependent properties. The phenomenological interrelations between microstructure and physical properties have been established for polar and nonpolar piezoelectrical oxides. The approaches for searching new oxide compounds promising for high optical nonlinearity have been discussed.
