Abstract
The common aim to increase the reliability of a radar system can be realized by a contactless rotary joint. By eliminating slip ring contacts and reducing lip seals the abrasion can be reduced which is beneficial in terms of lower maintenance effort and spare part costs. This results in an increased system availability. Today several channels can be substituted by a contactless design, however the system integrator needs always to be informed about the advantages and disadvantages as the impact on the overall system is of significant importance. Knowing these points and using the technology for each application a contactless system bears a high potential and increases the performance level of any radar system.
