Abstract :
This paper introduces local control as applied to multiple module dc-dc converters. Local control is a form of distributed control that emphasizes each module´s local information when making basic control decisions. There is no central controller or master controller. The design of simple, modular, and cooperative power converters is a primary motivating factor of this work. The challenges and opportunities of this control paradigm are placed in the context of other approaches. Simulation and experimental results for an input-series, output-parallel converter are included as an example of local control.
