Abstract
Investigates the possible structures for exploitation in the planar waveguide geometry, although the solutions so far published possess only discrete possibilities for the jump in the phase of the cw signal at either side of the dark pulse. The creation of such phase jumps experimentally is a major difficulty to switching dark solitons into and out of a cw signal to produce a data sequence. This motivates the present determination of more general families of coupled pulses, described explicitly in terms of hyperbolic functions
