Abstract
In this paper a 24 GHz radar sensor is considered for road traffic monitoring applications. A classical tracking procedure based on a Kalman filter has some accuracy limitations in curve situations. To overcome this situation some a priori information about the local road position will be provided into the tracking system. Especially the lanes and their orientation are then known beforehand and this information will be used for the advanced tracking procedure. The performance figures of the two tracking procedures will be calculated and compared. Additionally, a decision process will be designed for road intersections.
