  • Abstract
Demand of electricity continues to grow as new residential and industrial loads come on-line. This continuously growing demand of electricity is met by increasing electricity generation, adding infrastructure and by upgrading and/or modifying existing infrastructure. HV/EHV substations are examples of infrastructure which often go through an upgrade and/or modification. This paper discusses the methodology adopted by Salt River Project (SRP) using various industry-proven concepts for modification of 230kV substations. It discusses two case studies for recent expansion projects at SRP where the described methodology was used. It highlights various options that can be considered for an expansion, along with detailed benefits and limiting factors for the options.
