Abstract :
According to cdmaOne´s synchronous CDMA (code division multiple access) RTT (radio transmission technology) for IMT2000 (International Mobile Telecommunications near by the year 2000) called ´cdma2000´, two operation modes are supported for packet data service: P2 and P1. This document presents the performance of P2 gating operation compared to that of P1. The advantage of P2 over P1 can be stated in several points of view. First, P2 can provide better effective rate and more available bandwidth than P1 in forward and reverse link. Second, P2 can support more simultaneous subscribers than P1. Third, P2 consumes smaller power than P1 by using DTX (dis-continuous transmission mode) transmission and gating, and this leads to longer battery life. Fourth, P2 can provide larger pole capacity than P1 in the reverse link. Considering these advantages, it is highly recommended that P2 should be preferred in the 3G base station and the mobile stations based on IS-2000 recommendations
