Abstract :
As part of a European project to assess the level of cochannel interference due to microwave propagation beyond line-of-sight, Portsmouth Polytechnic, supported by the Centre National d´Etudes des Telecommunications (CNET) and the Rutherford-Appleton Laboratories (RAL) have set up a network of X-band transhorizon links across the English Channel. The paper presents a method of modelling the received median level due to turbulent scatter under different meteorological conditions, and the predictions based on that method are compared with observations made from the short link number 2 between Portsmouth, UK and Cap d´Antifer, France, which has a path length of 155 km. The anomalous propagation conditions are investigated and correlated with the different meteorological conditions observed
