Abstract
Power systems are continuously exposed to various disturbances, such as generation trip, line trip, etc. These variations may initiate oscillations that could jeopardize the system stability if not well damped. The distribution-level phasor monitoring system provides a low cost solution to collect the frequency, phase angle, and voltage magnitude data during the oscillations. By monitoring these parameters, the dynamic behavior of a system could be observed. In this paper, some sample oscillation cases, excited by different types of disturbances, are presented and analyzed using matrix pencil method. The oscillation characteristics could provide benchmarks for power grid´s operating performance that helps with the future damping control strategy design.
