Abstract :
High spectral efficiency, flexible data rate access, reconfigurability, highly integrated terminal devices and scalability are key areas of focus in the development of third generation wireless systems. Also central to the eventual deployment of these broadband wireless systems is the ability to develop cost effective receiver structures that are both flexible and robust. The following article presents a receiver structure which, when deployed in macrocellular environments, supports dynamic packet assignment, frequency hopping, OFDM and interference suppression using digital beamforming techniques. An architecture is described whereby channel survey and packet assignment can be efficiently performed. Results are presented showing the performance of this receiver structure in terms of packet loss, complexity and sensitivity
