Abstract :
Adsorption behaviors of sulfur-containing molecules are investigated on the surface of carbon nanotubes(CNTs) with vibrational spectrophotometer. Butanethiol (C/sub 4/H/sub 9/SH), hexanethiol (C/sub 6/H/sub 13/SH), nonanethiol(C/sub 9/H/sub 20/SH) and dodecanethiol(C/sub 12/H/sub 25/SH) molecules are adsorbed on a single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNTs) film, and infrared spectrum is measured as a function of molecular chain length and concentration of the adsorbed species, respectively. Alkanethiol molecules are thought to be adsorbed on SWNT surface strongly. All alkanethiol molecules show their strong vibrational peaks at 2856 and 2927 cm/sup -1/ corresponding to the CH/sub 2/ symmetric and asymmetric stretching bands, respectively.
