  • Abstract
Based on the two-dimensional perspective of metaphorical shape iconity and metonymic function relevance, the paper gives a preliminary sketch of the transferred meanings of the body lexicon in Chinese. Then it proposes two principles, namely the principles of subset and of severity hierarchy, to generalize the transferred meanings of the disease lexicon.
