  • Abstract
    For solving heterogeneity and establishing semantic interoperability across the Web, matching and alignment of ontologies have been carried out based on their lexical, conceptual and structural similarities. When dealing with structural similarities, a similarity between ontology-entities can be found by detecting similarities between their structurally connected graph structures. In this paper, we present our ontology matching approach, proof-based ontology matching (POM), to find proof-based similarities between (both atomic and complex) entities from the given ontologies. POM calculates a semantic similarity between two ontology-entities, not only based on their structural similarities but also takes into account similarities between their deductively connected ancestor graph structures. We have evaluated our ontology matching approach compared to existing attempts. We also showed the significance of our work, by matching healthcare ontologies using POM and obtaining a networked ontology for treating urinary tract infections.
