Abstract
The Telecommunications Research Institute (PIT), the largest research and development center in Poland, boasts a long history. This year we will be celebrating the 70th anniversary of our Institute´s founding; last year saw the 50th jubilee of our activity in the country defense sector. The Telecommunications Research Institute´s roots go straight back to the State Institute of Telecommunication established in 1934. The Institute has been divided and merged again a number of times; it served as a basis to open other centers and institutes. Nevertheless the majority of staff and tasks have evolved into what is represented by today´s PIT. All these years have been bridged by the company logo of a rhombus with the PIT abbreviation written into it. The paper shows the history and the latest achievements of the Telecommunications Research Institute. The research interests of the Institute over the years include radio navigation systems, radar and microwave technology, and command and control systems.
