Abstract :
Noise signals are often encountered in several science and engineering fields. They can be originated by a lot of different mechanisms, some of which are still not sufficiently understood. Since reliability and performance of many systems depend on their noise sensitivity and noise rejection capability, suitable noise sources are required to lead appropriate tests to investigate the behavior of the same systems in the presence of noise. At present, only white noise sources are available on the market. Technicians that need to generate colored noise could use arbitrary waveform generators as noise sources; but, they will barely find application notes that support them in this challenging task. This work presents tutorial notes related to the simulation of colored noise, in particular of composite-power-law noise, and proposes an analog generator that exploits an arbitrary waveform generator as noise source.
