Abstract
The CCD image sensors are being used for a variety of scientific, commercial, industrial, and consumer applications. In the last few years, the emphasis has been to develop megapixel and HDTV sensors for electronic still and motion imaging applications. This requires improvement in pixel design, and improvement in materials and process technology. Some of the applications of high-density image sensors and the technical challenges to improve performance and reduce costs are discussed.
