Abstract :
In the event of a possible head or neck injury on the football field, it is essential that athletic trainers or emergency response personnel assess the airway, breathing, and circulation of the athlete. This requires that the facemask part of the helmet is removed quickly and with as little disturbance to the head and neck as possible. Current removal methods apply stress to the spine that can aggravate an already potentially serious injury. The goal is to develop a football facemask removal device that reduces the amount of helmet movement and time of removal to quickly assess and prevent further injury to the player.
