Abstract
Summary form only given. Polymeric matrices modified by rare-earth cations show interesting photoluminescence properties. We report on time resolved spectroscopy of poly(ethylene) oxide, PEO, and poly(propylene) oxide, PPO, electrolytes containing different concentrations of Eu/sup 3+/ and Nd/sup 3+/ ions. Lifetimes regarding the main transitions of the fluorescence spectra (/sup 5/D/sub 0//spl rarr//supm7/F/sub 1,2/ for the Eu/sup 3+/ ion, /sup 4/D/sub 3//spl rarr//sup 4/I/sub 11/2/and /sup 2/D/sub 3/2//spl rarr//sup 4/I/sub 11/12/ for the Nd/sup 3+/ case) have been measured and are presented as a function of temperature in the range of 4 to 310 K. The order of magnitude of the values obtained at room temperature (/spl ap/ 0.1 ms) may constitute further indication of the technological optical potential of those polymeric materials.
