Abstract :
The technological success of personal communication services (PCS) depends on advances in several disciplines: signal processing, communication and networking. Technical advances in these individual disciplines need to be accompanied by joint designs, and by clever integrations of component technologies on economical platforms for digital signal processing and computing, with user interfaces that are both friendly and compelling. Current examples of PCS are rudimentary but important initial steps in a field where the demand for additional functionality is rapidly increasing
