  • Abstract
The construction of embankment is practically a layered buried process. The settlement can´t be accurately calculated by transitional settlement theoretical formula that based on the assumption that the load is applied at a time. According to the boundary conditions of a typical embankment of Ling-Nan expressway, the layered buried process is simulated based on the finite element software PLAXIS. The deformations of the location that three settlement plates buried are calculated by the method. The numerical results are compared with the observation data of settlement. The comparison shows that the simulation result is well consistent with the observation data which proves it is a feasible method to get more accurate settlement deformation result beneath layered buried embankment.
