The microelectronics industry is skill intensive and growing rapidly. Technology and working practices in the industry change continuously. These factors encourage collaboration between competitive companies and with their suppliers. To meet the staffing needs of the industry similar collaborative programmes are being initiated in many locations world-wide. The industry is seeking to participate in similar programmes with the college and university communities in the UK
