Abstract
Summary form only given. We have developed novel two-dimensional conjugated systems such as asymmetrically substituted phthalocyanine derivatives for second- and third-order nonlinear optics. The electron-withdrawing groups have been introduced at the peripheral of two-dimensional /spl pi/-conjugated macrocycles: a series of meso-monosubstituted porphyrins and mono-substituted phthalocyanines. The effects of substituents and metallation on enhancement of dipole moment and second-order polarizability are discussed. Second harmonic generation (SHG) of poled polymethylmethacrylate thin films doped with dipolar phthalocyanine derivatives or Z-type LB films of phthalocyanines has been investigated at 1064 nm, and it follows the discussion on the electric field induced alignment and dynamics of poling.
