Abstract
Deals with the problem of finding a well-balanced level of dependability (reliability, maintainability and maintenance support) in planning. Fault consequences are expressed in terms of money and are included as additional cost factors in planning and cost optimization. The cost factors include a service parameter to account for customers´ experience as well as costs of lost traffic revenue and corrective maintenance. Actions to promote dependability are investigated by means of a cost-benefit analysis
