Abstract :
Analysis and measurements are used to demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of a promising DC-DC power converter topology with lossless snubbers. With the snubbers the total transistor and diode losses are shown to be much less than in hard switching when the load current is large, and equal to or less than in hard switching when the load current is small. Measurements of the insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) switching performance in the DC-DC converter are presented. The design of a converter transformer with an integrated inductor is also presented. Also examined is the optimum gate resistance with respect to the performance when the snubber capacitors are not fully discharged at turn-on of the transistors
