Abstract :
An in-band optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring method was proposed for polarization multiplexed signals, but it is also applicable for signals modulated with only one polarization. This proposed method is based on Mach Zehnder delay line interferometer (MZ-DLI) and a simple calibration procedure, it is insensitive to CD and first order PMD effects and allows an estimated error less than 1.0 dB, 25 dB of estimated OSNR range and 30 dB of total input power range for 10G-OOK, 112G-DP-QPSK and 224G-DP-16QAM modulation formats.
