Abstract
We propose and numerically characterize a novel reach extender (RE) for optical access networks based on injection locking of a conventional Fabry-Perot (FP) laser. The proposed RE allows to regenerate a modulated downstream (DS) signal after fiber propagation and simultaneously transfer the DS modulation to adjacent CW channels. The performance of the proposed architecture is shown at data rates of 2.5 and 5 Gb/s with good effectiveness.
