Abstract
A discussion is presented of a quality assessment procedure for hand-free audio teleconference services, and an effective, subjective assessment system for overall speech quality evaluation is proposed. Simulated transmission impairments can be independently controlled due to the construction of the assessment system without voice processing equipment. Test results show the effectiveness of a mean opinion score for the services and the influence of room noise and talker echoes on speech quality. For quality design, the authors propose an equipment-independent echo performance measure. The conventional opinion equivalent SNR is available for quantization noise assessment.<>
