Abstract :
This paper describes the integration of cooperative learning and hands-on learning in a senior level course and laboratory. The course is based upon the innovative use of personal CBI tools, a low-cost personal DSP workstation, and real-world DSP microprocessor studies. Elements of this technology are also being used in a junior-level signals and systems course, a senior design laboratory, and several graduate courses. In addition to traditional student evaluation techniques, portfolio assessment was also used in order to provide an effective method of individual evaluation despite the confounding influence of cooperative learning
