Abstract :
Simple closed form expressions for the fields for a wide range of multimode interference (MMI) structures are presented. These fields are derived for the case where the waveguide sidewalls are highly reflective. The results enable the prediction of the magnitude and phase of the field at any point across the output plane of the structure.
