Abstract
The article reviews the status of competing technologies based on the DCS-1800, DECT and the CDMA. In India plans for a nation-wide cellular mobile telephony service (CMTS) based on GSM are underway while the CDMA are being proposed extensively for wireless loop applications. The Indian scene shall witness a high growth of wireless technologies whether for providing basic telephone service or other services such as PCS. The infrastructure being built now will have to favour a cost-effective and smooth migration to PCS
